The global synthwave scene is growing and growing. New artists and producers are coming from more and more countries. From India I present you Kushna. In this candid interview we talk about his debut album, plans for the future and we end with a nice gift for you.
Kushna, can you please introduce yourself?
I am Kushna, music producer from India. The name Kushna is actually came from the well-known Indian God name Krishna. I used to play with one small action figure of Krishna, but being a child I couldn´t pronounce it correctly. I used to say Kushna. So from then mom called me sometimes Kushna. I still remembered it and decided to use it for my artist name.
I love every music that I feel from within. I want my music to make people happy and an inspiration for their lives.
Last month your debut album ¨The Retrograde¨ was released. What can you tell us about this album?
First, I came up with the track Incredible, that was my third attempt for making synthwave. After finishing the track, I decided to make more similar tracks. Then within 2-3 weeks I made two more. After that I started to think on a name for the album and choose ¨Retrograde¨, which means a backwards step as it implies the retro feel.
On your first track Hypangogi, I hear some influences from Indian music. How important is music from your country as an inspiration to your music?
As I said earlier, I love every music that takes me within. So sounds emerging for Indian ethnic musical instruments does the same for me. For example, the sound of Bansuri that you might heard in track. I love every ethnic musical instrument, especially all Eastern ones.
Shortly after your debut album you release a new single called Gradual. How are the first reactions?
It got very good responses. Twitter gives me lots of exposure and including you as well.
What are your plans for this year?
I am planning to release a number of albums and working on similar projects. I hope to reach out the maximum of music lovers.
What equipment do you use in your studio?
Actually, I don´t have studio yet. I aim to build this within the next few years. Currently I use:
Hardware
Desktop-PC and Sennheiser HD 206 headphone
Software
FL Studio DAW, Sonarworks, Sylenth1, Serum, Repro 1 and 5, Zebra2, TAL-U-No-LX, Fab-Filter Bundle, Kontakt with For Real Instruments, Waves SSL Comp, OTT, Magic Stereo. Valhalla Room and Vintage.
What other musicians do inspire you?
There are lots of actually, but few which inspire me most are Lyde, Timecop1983, KSHMR, Lost Stories, Martin Garrix, Ravi Basrur, The MVI, The Golden Army, Dropgun and FatRat.
How is the synthwave scene in India?
In India there is nothing much. Most of the people don´t even know what synthwave is. I am still in search of someone who makes synthwave in India.

- The music
- Anime and cartoons
- Games
- Tapes
- Wired telephones
