Romeo, thank you for having this interview. Can you please introduce yourself?
My name is Romeo Mitrotta and i'm a producer, songwriter and singer of electronic-, pop and rock music from Italy.
You just released a new track called ¨The Dark Roots¨. What can you tell us about this track?
The ¨The Dark Roots¨ is the first official track of the official soundtrack for a new video game called PROJECT SALENTO. This is a new open world videogame with horror elements, developed by an Italian software studio called Tech Games Italia.
What are your plans on a musical level further for this year and 2025?
For this year and 2025 there are many new projects i'm working on: new collaborations about video and music. In particular I'm working on my official second album, the official soundtrack for PROJECT SALENTO and also for future live shows.
How would you describe your style?
I'm inspired by the ´80s since my childood. I love the the sensations of those years, the atmosphere, colours and style. I'm also inspired also by science fiction, futureism, cyberpunk, the soundtrack of ´80s movies and the gaming world. I love videogames and this is one of my passions.
When was your first encounter with synthwave music?
My first encounter with synthwave was a few years ago. I discovered this style of music through some Youtube channels. When I discovered this style, I was super enthusiastic and excited cause I finally found a style that let us to relive ´80s music, sensations, vibes and memories.
For the electronic music producers reading this interview, can you give us a look in your studio?
I have a studio at home and sometimes I add new elements, accessories and instruments for new experiences. Maybe one day I will organize a special look in my studio.
The synthwave scene in Italy is really strong with a lot of producers creating amazing music. How do you think it´s going in your country?
In Italy we have a lot of talents, many musicians, producers with beautiful ideas and a great passion. In my country there is a great passion for art, but often is difficult for a new artist to be discovered. Sincerely I think the synthwave scene in Italy is still a niche. There are many people who know this genre of music and love it, but many others don't know this genre even if they love ´80s and other synthwave elements like futurism, soundtrack styles, gaming and cyberpunk.
Which cartoons, movies and games from the ´80s are an inspiration to you?
There are many ´80s movies that I love. Some of the major movies of ´80s that are an inspiration to me are:
- Back to the Future, one of my favourite movies since my childood;
- Blade Runner, that is a beautiful science fiction movie with a wonderful soundtrack and a great cyberpunk vision;
- The action movies of the ´80s with Schwarzenegger, Stallone and Van Damme;
- Science fiction movies like The Terminator and Robocop. I love the soundtracks. Infact I produced a tribute remix for the Robocop soundtrack!
- About cartoons, i love KEN SHIRO and DRAGON BALL.
- I'm a passionate gamer and started to play videogames on the Amiga 500 and PS1. I really like horror games like Resident Evil and fantasy stories like the Final Fantasy saga.
What are your dreams for the future?
For the future I have many dreams, projects....many things to do. Music to me is life, a great passion and I want to continue to create new music, write and sing on new songs. Also work on future live shows, create new sensations and feel emotions through this art. I'm really enjoying the experience of making a videogame soundtrack and I want to continue to work in the world of gaming.
And finally, any last words?
I want to thank you for this interview Sander, for complimenting my music.
And I want to thank all the people that support me, that listen to my music and have passion for this art. I'm preparing something special for the future. My new album will have different electronic music styles and maybe...you will hear again my voice. Stay tuned!
